Exhibition summary

This exhibition showcases one hundred and twenty photographs from The Palestinian Museum's Digital Archive, focusing on the daily lives of Palestinians from 1948 to the present. Titled after a poem by Refaat Alareer, the exhibition aims to present Palestinian stories beyond images of conflict, highlighting ceremonies, education, and community life.

Curatorial context

Titled "Para contar mi historia" (To Tell My Story), this exhibition draws its name from a poem by the Palestinian writer Refaat Alareer. It presents a narrative of Palestinian everyday life, moving beyond typical portrayals of horror to focus on the personal histories captured in family photographs. The exhibition features one hundred and twenty selected photographs from the Palestinian Museum Digital Archive (PMDA), chosen from its vast collection of nearly twenty thousand images. This archive has been meticulously compiled to preserve the threatened memory of the Palestinian people, with much of the material donated by Palestinian families who have documented their daily lives since before 1900. These photographs serve as a crucial testament to a society that, despite daily violence, experiences joy and engagement with the same fundamental aspects of life as people everywhere: ceremonies, education, festivities, street life, and performances, all of which are represented within the exhibition. Curated by Pablo Llorca, the exhibition spans from 1948, the year of the Nakba, to the present day. The photographs vary in theme, technique, and style, reflecting their diverse origins as a collection from multiple sources, with few professional photographers among the contributors. Collectively, they offer a direct and unembellished view of reality. Accompanying the exhibition is a book of the same title, featuring contributions from professors and creators interested in Palestine. The book is available in exchange for a donation, with proceeds going to UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

Admission and ticket notes

Admission is free until full capacity is reached for the inauguration event. For the exhibition itself, ticket prices are 6€ for general admission, 5€ for reduced admission, and free for CBA members.
