Curatorial context

Within the framework of its 75th anniversary, the Museo Lázaro Galdiano presents "Fashion Art by Manuel Fernández," a unique exhibition celebrating two decades of innovative fashion and art. Running from March 12 to April 12, 2026, the exhibition features 27 costumes designed by Manuel Fernández, each uniquely interpreted by prominent Spanish and international visual artists, including Abraham Lacalle, Manolo Valdés, and Luis Gordillo, among many others. The collection, drawn from a larger body of 300 artist-interpreted garments by 46 nationalities, showcases techniques from haute couture to street art, offering a vibrant fusion of creativity. The exhibition also delves into themes related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and European Union values, such as environmental protection and human dignity. Manuel Fernández, a pioneer who first presented in New York Fashion Week, has a significant history of social engagement. Since 2007, he has led initiatives like training workshops for vulnerable groups, empowering individuals through fashion design and art. The exhibition at the Museo Lázaro Galdiano builds upon this legacy, establishing a dialogue between contemporary art and the museum's classical collection. It will be accompanied by three workshops reflecting its social character: one for women from APRAMP, another for individuals with rare diseases in collaboration with an NGO, and a recycling workshop for young adults culminating in a public fashion show of their creations.

Admission and ticket notes

Entry to the exhibition is free of charge. Visitors are directed to the general museum opening hours, which are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 15:00. Specific workshops accompanying the exhibition may have their own participation details mentioned in the program notes.
