Curatorial context

The Museo Geominero presents 'Cristales en el granito de La Cabrera (Madrid)', a monographic exhibition dedicated to the minerals found in the granite of La Cabrera, Madrid. This exhibition aims to showcase a selection of the most spectacular specimens obtained from this zone, which spans from Lozoyuela to La Cabrera and from Cervera de Buitrago to Miraflores de la Sierra. The exhibition intends to convey the most significant geological aspects of these deposits to the general public, such as the different types of granites, the pegmatites with geodes where crystals grow, and the various minerals that can be found within them. Although the crystals from La Cabrera's granite are internationally renowned in mineralogical circles, their existence remains unknown to a significant portion of the inhabitants of the Community of Madrid. For this reason, the Museo Geominero intended to exhibit this display in spaces located within the municipalities of this Community. The exhibition fundamentally consists of two complementary parts: the first comprises textual and graphic information supported by panels, and the second is based on a selection of mineral specimens from the granite of La Cabrera. Additionally, a real-scale simulation of a geode lined with quartz and orthoclase crystals is included.
