Curatorial context

The exhibition "El aura de los ciervos. Miguel Ángel Blanco" invites visitors to experience a dialogue between contemporary creation and the historical works within the Museo del Romanticismo. Artist Miguel Ángel Blanco draws inspiration from a 19th-century engraving by Fernando Brambilla, depicting deer in the vicinity of Riofrío Palace, to curate a selection of pieces that delve into the fascination with deer. This animal, imbued with ancestral symbolic meaning, was a recurring motif throughout Romantic art. The exhibition highlights various facets of its artistic representation during that era. Complementing the artworks are eight 'libro-caja' (book-boxes) from the Biblioteca del Bosque, seven of which were created specifically for this show. The exhibition culminates in an installation featuring empty metopes and a collection of antlers, symbolizing the release of the deer's aura, and is enhanced by a sound intervention that evokes the natural sounds of nature. This exhibition is part of the 'Nuevas Miradas' program.
