The Museo del Romanticismo is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the Czech photographer Miroslav Tichý (1926-2011), participating for the fourth time in the renowned PHotoESPAÑA festival. This exhibition, running from June 2nd to August 28th, 2016, delves into Tichý's distinctive artistic universe, where the photographic support is intrinsically linked to his creative process. Visitors can see two of the unique cameras Tichý crafted himself from discarded materials, underscoring his profoundly artisanal approach. Tichý's work is characterized by its romantic, mysterious, and pictorial atmosphere, achieved through his hands-on intervention in every stage, from camera construction and development to the final presentation of the photographs. He often drew passe-partouts, retouched images, and allowed external elements and time to influence his prints, blurring the lines between painting, drawing, and photography. The exhibition also includes the documentary "Tarzan retired" (2004), offering insight into the artist's life, marked by societal marginalization and persecution under the communist regime, which included multiple psychiatric hospitalizations and imprisonment. Despite these hardships, Tichý's street photography captured the social transformations of his time, providing an intimate portrait of his hometown and a universal, timeless reflection on women in various attitudes and ages.
Entry to the temporary exhibition is free. Guided tours are available on specific dates in June and July and require prior reservation by phone. Museum opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 AM to 8:30 PM, and Sundays and holidays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
