The Museo del Romanticismo is concluding its invited artwork display, featuring a portrait of the renowned poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. This 1862 painting by his brother, Valeriano Domínguez Bécquer, offers a significant example of Spanish Romantic portraiture.
The Museo del Romanticismo is bidding farewell to its 'Invited Artwork' presentation, which has featured a significant portrait of the poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. Painted in 1862 by his brother, the artist Valeriano Domínguez Bécquer, and loaned by the Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla, this piece is a notable example of Spanish Romantic portraiture. Its display allowed for a dialogue with other works within the museum's permanent collection, including another portrait of Bécquer in his final days by his friend Vicente Palmaroli, which is located in the same gallery. Visitors had until June 30th to view this special display in SALA XVII (GABINETE DE LARRA).
To commemorate the departure of the poet's portrait, the museum organized parallel events. These included a storytelling session titled 'Los ojos verdes' on Saturday, June 22nd, aimed at families with children aged 8 and up, focusing on one of Bécquer's famous legends. Additionally, a concert by the resident Cuarteto Bécquer took place on Saturday, June 29th, featuring the string quartet performing works by Haydn, Mozart, and Mussorgsky.
