HECHO EN CASA: A Vision of Domestic Video Art in Contemporary Spain

This exhibition presents a selection of twenty audiovisual art projects created in Spain over the last decade, exploring domestic video art made outside the mainstream industry. It critically examines everyday life and media reception through non-professional technology and the precariousness of independent art production.

«HECHO EN CASA. Vídeo arte doméstico actual en España» showcases twenty audiovisual artworks produced in Spain over the past ten years. These pieces reflect or utilize modes of domestic, unregulated, and industry-marginal video art, examining themes from daily life to media reception. The artists critically and creatively employ non-professional technology, often recording daily life or intervening in archival material. The exhibition highlights a "closeness aesthetic" and notes that the artists' choice of domestic production often stems from the precariousness of independent art in Spain. The work challenges conventional notions of the "home movie" by questioning the idea of a solely amiable domestic sphere. The exhibition is divided into two phases, reflecting a generational shift influenced by the pandemic, distinguishing between artists with analog formative backgrounds and digital natives (Generation Z). This generational division offers two distinct critical perspectives, both imbued with emotional and testimonial weight, in response to the familiar affectivities of "home movies." Complementary activities include the presentation of RUA Audiovisual (University Network for Audiovisual Art) and guided visits and workshops.
