Curatorial context

«#THISISBEAUTY» is a recent performance by choreographer and dancer Lisi Estarás, presented as a solo piece marking her 50th birthday. The 50-minute work is structured around 50 thoughts, delving into the performer's reflections during movement and questioning the relationship between spoken words and physical expression. Central to the piece is the exploration of language's role in dance, informed by a collaboration with philosopher Carla Carmona. Drawing inspiration from Ludwig Wittgenstein and other women around 50, Estarás crafts a physical and verbal autobiographical fiction that challenges the absurdities of communication. This dance monologue specifically addresses the presence of "mature" women on stage, tackling topics like menopause, sexuality, and discrimination with sharp humor. It reflects on the interplay between movement, language, and unspoken elements, showcasing Estarás's virtuosity in contemporary dance, philosophy, and stand-up.
