Curatorial context

Peter is Back is a live performance and experiment by artist Amir Yatziv that centers on a dynamic dialogue between the artist and an animated avatar, Peter. Inspired by Franz Kafka's short story 'Report to an Academy,' the avatar, powered by AI, discusses its journey from a monkey to humanity. The performance unfolds through shifts in control between the actor and director, and between scripted dialogue and improvisation. Each show is unique as the AI character responds spontaneously, informed by its previous recorded performances, creating a unique conversation each time. Yatziv controls all on-screen elements, including the avatar's expressions and visual environment, in real-time. The work serves as a mirror to our own humanity, reflecting, distorting, and redefining what it means to be human in the age of AI.
