The exhibition 'ALMA DE VIDRIO: EXISTENCIA' (GLASS SOUL: EXISTENCE) explores the human life cycle, its connection to nature, light, and spirituality. It delves into themes of birth, growth, maturity, transformation, and death, reflecting on the universal human experience through the medium of glass.
Part of the long-term project GLASS SOUL, 'ALMA DE VIDRIO: EXISTENCIA' re-examines funerary sculpture and its place in contemporary art and society. The exhibition thematically develops this direction, offering a profound insight into the entire life cycle – from birth to disappearance and transformation, through growth and maturation – the natural phases that constitute human experience and consciousness. It focuses on the fundamental and everyday fragments that shape personality, experience, and memory. Through glass objects, a silent narrative unfolds about origins, peaks, decline, and the inner transformations inherent in human destiny. Special attention is given to death as a natural part of the cycle, a point of closure, remembrance, and preservation, offering a space for reflection and reverence. The art of glass, with its transparency, light refraction, fragility, and hardness, embodies the tension between transience and permanence. The exhibition features works by 15 contemporary Czech artists from diverse disciplines, including glassmakers, sculptors, architects, painters, and jewelers, who use glass in their unique artistic languages to create a complex mosaic of statements on life, death, and memory. The objects are primarily created using the cast glass technique, complemented by blown, fused, or cut glass, often combined with materials like metal and stone.
