Curatorial context

Hungary is making a strong statement in the global art scene with 'Glassification.hu', an exhibition designed to highlight the potential of its contemporary glass art. Despite Hungarian glass art being world-leading, its international recognition has been limited. To address this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has organized this two-year itinerant exhibition, set to visit fifteen prestigious global venues. The collection comprises exceptional glass sculptures, crafted using advanced and often unique techniques pioneered by Hungarian masters. 'Glassification.hu' brings together ten artists spanning four generations, whose large abstract works reflect the technological diversity of contemporary Hungarian glass. These artists are highly decorated, collectively holding over thirty prestigious awards and with more than fifty works in prominent public collections both in Hungary and abroad. The exhibition title, 'Glassification.hu', cleverly merges the concept of 'transformation into glass' with 'gamification', suggesting the material's dynamic and playful character, while the .hu suffix points to Hungary's digital connection and innovative spirit.
