The IX Mes del diseño emergente (IX Emerging Design Month) is an annual initiative by the Museum of Costume, organized in collaboration with national design schools. Its primary goal is to provide a recognized cultural platform for future fashion professionals to showcase their work, thereby informing the public about the wide range of educational opportunities available in fashion design. This year's edition features thirteen distinct exhibition samples, an increase from the previous year, highlighting the projects developed by young emerging designers throughout the academic year.
The exhibition is spread across two floors of the museum. On the first floor, displays include the Centro Superior de Diseño y Moda de Madrid's anniversary showcase, Creanavarra's "Dark Sense" collection exploring deep sensations with sustainable materials, EASD Mestre Mateo's designs inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites using ecoprint techniques, Universidad Francisco de Vitoria's "Upcyclingarments" collection made from recycled sportswear, Universidad Complutense de Madrid's "Volum" collection inspired by Gaudí's use of volume, and UDIT's visually provocative collection exploring beauty in the putrid.
The ground floor features projects from Escuela de Artediez, a punk-inspired homage to Vivienne Westwood focusing on recycling and awareness; Escuela de Arte 3's jewelry and goldsmithing projects blending traditional crafts with modern design; Escuela Superior de Diseño de La Rioja's non-commercial collection emphasizing theatrical lighting and sound; IADE's "El vigor de un suspiro" with its mirrored spaces prompting reflection on desire; IED Madrid's "Híbrido" exploring hybridization in design practice; and Kroomdos's collection inspired by the world of puppets. Additionally, two projects benefiting from the INJUVE 2022 Young Creation Grants, by designers Teresa Bua and Ana Micaela, are presented.
