Curatorial context

The VIII Mes del diseño emergente (VIII Month of Emerging Design) exhibition, running from June 1 to July 3, 2022, transforms the Museum of Costume into a showcase for the most significant projects by students from major fashion design schools. This initiative provides a crucial opportunity for future professionals to gain visibility and demonstrates the broad range of educational opportunities within the fashion design sector. This year, the exhibition continues its collaboration with the Instituto de la Juventud (Injuve), presenting fashion design projects funded by the 'Ayudas para la Creación Joven' (Grants for Young Creation) for the 2019 and 2021 calls, aiming to support young designers in launching their careers. Across eleven distinct displays, the exhibition features the work developed by emerging designers during the academic year. After interruptions in 2020 and 2021 due to global health concerns, the Museum proudly revives this project for its eighth edition. The exhibition highlights a diverse spectrum of styles reflecting the multifaceted identity of budding designers. Themes explored include formal experimentation with color palettes and natural dyes, a strong emphasis on sustainability, the valorization of research and production processes, the aesthetic of 'unfinished' designs, the symbiotic relationship between art and fashion, and tributes to 20th-century artists and designers. Specific sections detail projects from institutions like ESDIR, Escuela de Arte 10, Centro Superior de Diseño y Moda de Madrid, Creanavarra, Istituto Europeo di Diseño (IED Madrid), Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Kroom Dos, and Injuve, each offering unique perspectives and approaches to contemporary fashion design.
