Curatorial context

"Art Déco i Sacrum. Sztuka dekoracyjna dwudziestolecia międzywojennego" marks the first comprehensive exhibition in Poland to explore the relationship between the modernist aesthetics of the interwar period and religious art. The exhibition showcases a variety of liturgical items, including chalices, vestments, patens, and medallions, alongside graphics and plaques. These objects, which served a direct liturgical purpose, are presented as testaments to a unique historical moment where the tradition of sacral art engaged with the visual language of modernism and the distinct elegance of the Art Deco style. The exhibition is curated by dr hab. Anna Kostrzyńska-Miłosz and dr Agnieszka Kasprzak-Danis, with organization by Roksana Gawrońska and exhibition design by Sonia Graban. It aims to highlight how the refined forms and decorative principles of Art Deco were integrated into the creation of sacred objects during the interwar years, offering a fresh perspective on both the art historical period and the evolution of religious art.
