Curatorial context

Curated by Magda Kardasz, 'A House on Roots' brings together Ana Vostruchovaitė and Łukasz Radziszewski to explore their respective bonds with their home regions and personal histories. Ana Vostruchovaitė’s work, characterized by a refined pastel palette, includes paintings, objects, and jacquard textiles that reflect on her upbringing in Vilnius and her ongoing identity as part of a national minority. Her pieces often incorporate organic shapes and posthumanist perspectives, questioning the fluidity of human identity in an increasingly digitized and nature-connected world. Łukasz Radziszewski complements this exploration by focusing on customs and community-building rituals. His contribution includes a project centered on the traditional craft of whittling small boats from bark, an act he uses to explore distance, memory, and the social bonds formed through shared labor. His installation also features collages made from public transport tickets, serving as an ironic reflection on urban identity and the influences of modern ideologies. Together, the two artists present a multifaceted investigation into how local identity serves as an essential anchor in contemporary society.
