This exhibition explores the past of fashion through legendary creators like Poiret, Fortuny, Lanvin, and Schiaparelli, as reinterpreted by today's designers. It presents twenty masterpieces of haute couture, such as Chanel's suit jacket and Dior's Bar suit, immortalized in photographs and reimagined by twenty Spanish creators.
The exhibition '20 iconos del siglo XX' delves into the history of fashion by showcasing seminal works from legendary designers and their reinterpretation by contemporary artists. The exhibition's discourse is structured around two main tributes. The first is the selection of twenty masterpieces from the history of haute couture, including iconic pieces like Chanel's suit jacket, Yves Saint Laurent's women's tuxedo, Rabanne's chainmail dress, Mary Quant's miniskirt, and Dior's Bar suit. These fashion landmarks are presented through photographs, highlighting their enduring status as classics that have shaped fashion history.
The second tribute features the perspective of twenty Spanish designers who interpret these icons. Among them are Amaya Arzuaga, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, David Delfín, and Jesús del Pozo. Each creator has been associated by the curator with an icon for which they seemed "destined," allowing them to reinterpret and reinvent these classic models, bringing them into the 21st century with versions of excellent quality. According to the curator, these are "admirable recreations, sincere tributes that already pose the challenge of one day joining the originals that inspired them."
