Carole Simard-Laflamme's Textile Art Exhibition: Los vestidos del tiempo, Habit, Habitat, Habitus

This exhibition by Canadian artist Carole Simard-Laflamme presents two distinct yet interconnected projects: 'Los vestidos del tiempo' and 'Habit, Habitat, Habitus'. The exhibition 'Los vestidos del tiempo: Habit, Habitat, Habitus' showcases the work of Canadian artist Carole Simard-Laflamme, known for her monumental textile art installations often related to architecture. The exhibition is divided into two main parts. 'Los vestidos del tiempo' is a deeply personal project inspired by Marcel Proust's 'In Search of Lost Time'. It features a collection of small, plastified, and meticulously stitched fabric pieces, each originating from dresses worn by women from the artist's childhood in Quebec, as well as from other women worldwide. These fragments, collected and joined with gold thread, serve as elegies to time, imbuing worn garments with the power to endure and be reborn, creating a dream of immortality. The second part, 'Habit, Habitat, Habitus', comprises six works that draw analogies between the grand paradigms of Architecture—such as the arch, pyramid, and cross—and everyday objects like shoes, hats, and necklaces, with pieces from the Museo del Traje's collection. It also highlights traditional Quebecois textile techniques and pays homage to Gaudí, connecting various works through the concept of 'Habitant'.
