This exhibition showcases 16 unique costumes crafted from vegetables, inspired by international designers like Alexander McQueen, Cristóbal Balenciaga, and Coco Chanel. The garments, created by fashion design students, are made using various horticultural products and are on display for the first time outside of their originating institution.
The 'Verduras de moda' exhibition presents a fascinating collection of 16 costumes made entirely from vegetables sourced from Calahorra's gardens. These creations are inspired by iconic designs from international fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen, Cristóbal Balenciaga, and Coco Chanel, and have previously been featured in the 'Ciudad de la Verdura' fashion shows. The intricate costumes were brought to life by students from the Fashion Degree at the Higher School of Design of La Rioja, utilizing materials like beans, onion skins, garlic, peas, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, and red cabbage.
These 16 unique pieces are part of the collection of the Museo de la Verdura de Calahorra, a singular institution dedicated to vegetables in Spain, and this marks their first exhibition outside of their home museum. The show is presented as part of the Gastrofestival's 'Gastrocultura' program, highlighting the interconnectedness between gastronomy and various artistic disciplines. Visitors can expect to be impressed by the ingenuity, color, laboriousness, and complexity of these designs, which offer a vibrant fusion of fashion and the natural bounty of the earth.
