This exhibition, a collaboration between the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, UNRWA, and ECHO, showcases twenty-seven photographs taken by photojournalists documenting life in Gaza under siege since October 2023. It aims to bear witness to the destruction, displacement, and humanitarian crisis faced by the region's inhabitants.
The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, in partnership with the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the European Commission's Department for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO), presents 'Gaza Through Their Eyes.' This exhibition features twenty-seven photographs captured by photojournalists who have been documenting life in the Gaza Strip under siege since October 2023. The images confront the devastating impact of nearly two years of conflict, characterized by constant bombardment, forced displacement, and the collapse of essential services. The text highlights the apocalyptic destruction of entire neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing the protection afforded by international humanitarian law to civilians and aid workers.
The exhibition underscores the critical role of UNRWA, which has served Gaza for decades, providing essential services and responding to the current emergency. Schools have become shelters, and thousands of workers continue to offer vital assistance, supported by the European Union. The photographs were taken by UNRWA photojournalists who, at great personal risk, document the reality of life under siege, with their names withheld for security reasons. This exhibition serves as their gaze, Gaza's voice, and an urgent call to acknowledge and not turn away from the ongoing crisis.
