Oxford Playhouse Adult Company Rehearsals and Summer Production of The Visit
Following a sold-out run of Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle, the Oxford Playhouse Adult Company is preparing to return to the Main Stage this summer. The ensemble is currently deep in rehearsals for Friedrich Dürrenmatt's searing and provocative play, The Visit, translated into English by Maurice Valency.
What to Expect from The Visit in Oxford
Set in a financially distressed and rundown town, the haunting story unfolds when an extraordinarily wealthy former resident returns with an offer of salvation. However, her financial support comes with a severe and sinister ultimatum that forces the local community to confront past actions and moral boundaries.
Directed by local theatre maker Emma Webb, the production is staged in an intimate studio arrangement designed to bring the audience right into the middle of the dramatic tension. Webb notes that the piece blends dark humour with complex sexual politics, testing the moral center of its characters as it builds to a startling conclusion.
The multi-generational ensemble has been holding weekly script sessions, showcasing exceptional dedication and collaborative energy. The performance features a complete in-house creative team, including Lucy Findlay as assistant director, Tom Freeman as producer, Immy Howard handling costume and set design, Will Hayman on lighting, and Augustine Van Spyk designing the sound.

The production runs on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 July. With strong public interest following their previous successes, remaining ticket availability is now limited specifically to the Saturday matinee on 11 July.
