Oxford Playhouse Youth Theatre Takes Center Stage at the National Theatre Connections Festival
The Oxford Playhouse Youth Theatre is heading to the North Wall to perform in this year’s National Theatre Connections Festival. As part of a nationwide celebration of young performance talent, the local company will stage a special production following initial performances at the Burton Taylor Studio.
Exploring Character and Motive in Sycamore Gap
The young ensemble is presenting Sycamore Gap, a specially commissioned play written by Al Smith and directed by Lucy Findlay with assistance from Caitlin Kirby. The narrative functions as a dramatic whodunnit centered on the day after the felling of the famous tree in 2023.
Set within a school classroom, the story follows thirteen members of an eco-club held by local police for questioning. As the teenagers wait to be interviewed individually, they interrogate one another about possible motives, community impact, and the search for the culprit. This marks the second consecutive year that the youth company has taken part in the nationwide festival, which connects emerging performers with contemporary writers.
