Little Shop of Horrors Coming to Oxford Playhouse in 2027
Oxford Playhouse has announced an upcoming collaboration with Leeds Playhouse for a brand-new staging of the cult classic Little Shop of Horrors. Scheduled to arrive in Summer 2027, the production brings a fresh perspective to the darkly comic musical.
What to Expect from the Leeds Playhouse Production in Oxford
Directed by Jamie Sophia Fletcher, the production leans into the show's dark humor, combining elements of retro B-movie aesthetics and camp horror inspired by the iconic 1986 cinematic adaptation.
The story follows Seymour Krelborn, an insecure florist's assistant working on Skid Row whose fortunes shift when he stumbles upon an unusual, fast-growing plant he calls Audrey II. As the R&B-singing, wisecracking botanical specimen gains popularity, its ambitions—and its demands for human blood—escalate rapidly.
Audiences can look forward to hearing the celebrated score crafted by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, the creative force behind renowned Disney features such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.
Continuing Creative Partnerships
This collaboration strengthens the ongoing relationship between Oxford Playhouse and Leeds Playhouse. Both venues share a history as associate partners of Headlong, a theater company that has previously brought productions like A Raisin in the Sun and August Wilson’s Fences to local stages.
Little Shop of Horrors will run at the Oxford venue in Summer 2027, with tickets expected to become available later this year.
