Oxford Playhouse Showcase Celebrates Creativity and Collaboration in End of Year Performances
The stage lights have dimmed on a successful season of community productions at the Oxford Playhouse, following the recent end of year showcases from the venue's in-house talent. Both the Playhouse Youth Theatre and the Playhouse Adult Company drew sold-out crowds, highlighting the dedication and collaborative spirit fostered within the venue's creative rehearsal spaces.
Highlights from the Youth Theatre and Adult Company Productions
The celebratory week launched in the Burton Taylor Studio with the Playhouse Youth Theatre's presentation of School Tripped. Conceived and devised entirely by the young participants over the course of a ten-week term, the piece reimagined a standard school trip into a lively, comedic stage production. Led by Youth Theatre leader Lucy Findlay, alongside assistants Caitlin Kirby and Ben Newman, the young ensemble brought original characters and personal humorous stories to life.
Later in the week, the Playhouse Adult Company took over the Main Stage with a compelling interpretation of Friedrich Dürrenmatt's The Visit. Directed by Emma Webb with assistance from Lucy Findlay, the multi-generational ensemble explored themes of revenge, past romance, and shifting morality set against a 1960s backdrop. To deepen the dramatic impact, the Main Stage was configured into an intimate studio layout, placing the audience right alongside the performers. The production featured design contributions from Immy Howard on sets and costumes, Will Hayman on lighting, and Augustine Van Spyk on sound.
