Young Stargazers Discover the Wonders of Space at the Science Oxford Centre
The Science Oxford Centre recently hosted an immersive stargazing evening and family planetarium show, drawing young explorers to discover the scale of the universe from meteorites to the Moon.
Stargazing and Celestial Views for Local Families
Clear winter skies provided an ideal backdrop for attendees to observe Saturn and its rings, alongside the Moon, through telescopes set up by volunteer astronomers from the Abingdon Astronomical Society. Visitors even caught a live fly-by of the International Space Station during the event.
Engagement Manager Sian Stratton noted that the successful gathering allowed families to experience real-time astronomy alongside expert guidance. Local families from the East Oxford area were invited to take part through support from The Oxford Trust.
Hands-On Space Exploration and Planetarium Shows
Inside the venue, Oxford's Space Store offered children a chance to inspect genuine meteorite samples, learn identification techniques, and try on realistic replicas of European Space Agency (ESA) space suits. Meanwhile, resident Space Specialist Kat Kelly led an inflatable planetarium show that demonstrated the vast dimensions of the universe, inspiring young participants to craft artwork modeled after lunar craters.
