Celebrating Four Decades of Innovation at the Science Oxford Centre
The Science Oxford Centre recently marked a major regional milestone as its parent organization, The Oxford Trust, celebrated its 40th anniversary. Brought together at Rhodes House, two hundred figures from education, science, business, and the wider community gathered to look back at four decades of regional discovery and look ahead to future community investments.
Four Decades of STEM Engagement in Oxford
Established back in 1985 by local philanthropists and entrepreneurs Sir Martin Wood and Lady Audrey Wood, the Trust has spent the last forty years fostering technological enterprise and encouraging young minds to explore STEM subjects.
During the anniversary gathering, Chief Executive Officer Steve Burgess highlighted the scale of this impact, noting that the organization has supported hundreds of local enterprises through its innovation spaces while introducing hundreds of thousands of children to hands-on learning through Science Oxford initiatives. Keynote remarks from leadership and trustees honored this ongoing legacy, accompanied by performances and a celebratory toast among partners, supporters, and members of the Wood family.
Capturing a Milestone Year
To document its anniversary year, the organization appointed an early-career Photographer in Residence, Jason Warner, tasked with capturing "a year in the life of The Oxford Trust." These photographic works, alongside a specially produced short film by Tom Lucus of Burst Design, were prominently featured during the celebration.
