This is an outdoor exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Tadeusz Mazowiecki, focusing on his role in democratic transformations, social engagement, and personal biography. The exhibition aims to highlight his sense of responsibility and his views on human dignity.
The exhibition 'Mazowiecki. Najpierw jest się człowiekiem | wystawa' (Mazowiecki. First, one is a human being | exhibition) is an outdoor display dedicated to the life and activities of Tadeusz Mazowiecki (1927–2013). It covers his extensive career as an editor of 'Więź', a democratic opposition activist during the PRL, the first non-communist Prime Minister after World War II, and a special UN envoy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The exhibition showcases his crucial role in Poland's democratic transformations, his deep engagement in Polish social life, and his personal biography.
The exhibition's theme, 'First, one is a human being,' directly reflects Mazowiecki's conviction about shared humanity and responsibility, particularly evident in his reflections on the Bosnian War. He emphasized the primary importance of human dignity and empathy, stating, 'When one looks at such terrible misfortunes, the feeling that first one is human becomes very strong. And only then a person of a specific nationality.' This exhibition is an adaptation of the 'Mazowiecki. Człowiek dialogu' (Mazowiecki. Man of Dialogue) exhibition organized by the History Meeting House in 2014, curated by Katarzyna Madoń-Mitzner.
