This exhibition traces the development of data processing techniques, from early calculation tools to modern global information systems. It highlights the evolution of computing technology, including its physical basis, interfaces, and the societal and economic changes driven by digitalization, with a focus on Polish achievements.
The exhibition "Historia Komputerów. Liczy się!" (History of Computers. It Counts!) explores the fascinating journey of machine-driven data processing. It delves into the evolution of techniques that process not just numbers, but all forms of information without direct human intervention. Visitors will discover the progression of solutions, starting from basic calculating aids to the complex global systems that define the 21st century. The exhibition emphasizes the technical shifts, from mechanical to electronic devices, and within electronics, from vacuum tubes to integrated circuits, detailing the resulting miniaturization and performance increases. It also touches upon the societal and economic impacts of widespread digital machine usage and the transition from analog to binary systems.
Key themes include the evolution of user interfaces, from ancient abacuses to modern graphical interfaces and even direct neural interfaces. The exhibition underscores the ubiquitous nature of computing power in contemporary devices. A significant focus is placed on showcasing Polish contributions to computer technology and informatics, featuring unique Polish-made machines like the AKAT-1, ARR, ZAM-21, and ODRA 1002 prototypes, alongside the work of notable figures such as Jan Łukasiewicz and Jacek Karpiński. The exhibition is designed to engage diverse age groups, offering entertainment and basic knowledge for younger children, deeper technical and historical insights for teenagers and young adults, and opportunities for seasoned enthusiasts and families to learn and connect.
