This festive schedule offers various interactive experiences, from hands-on art workshops to engaging demonstrations and a unique family-friendly tour. Guests can delve into the world of the Dutch master, gaining a deeper understanding of Rembrandt's life and artistic process.
Discover Rembrandt's Artistic World This Christmas
The museum invites guests to explore different facets of Rembrandt's craft through activities designed for all ages. Whether through active participation in art creation or an animated historical tour, the holiday program provides multiple avenues to connect with both history and art.
Hands-On Etching Workshops
Step into the shoes of a 17th-century artist with an etching workshop. These sessions are held daily from December 20 to December 31, and again from January 2 to 4, 2026. Participants will learn to experiment with the drypoint technique, adding their own creative flair to a Rembrandt-inspired etching. Each workshop, lasting from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, allows attendees to create and take home two printed artworks. Suitable for adults and children aged 6 and up, the workshop costs €9.95 per person (excluding museum entrance), with a reduced price of €2.50 for Stadspas holders. Further details and booking information can be found on the museum's etching workshop page.
Explore with Kwast, Rembrandt's Dog
Families with children aged 6 to 12 can embark on an adventure led by Kwast, Rembrandt’s beloved dog. This free multimedia tour is available daily during museum opening hours. Kwast guides visitors through the historic Rembrandt House Museum, revealing secret corners and offering insights into the artist's fondness for animals, which frequently appear in his artworks. After completing the tour, children will receive a special gift from Kwast. This engaging activity does not require advance reservation and can be accessed at the multimedia desk.
Uncover Rembrandt's Artistic Techniques
Experience daily, complimentary demonstrations that illustrate how Rembrandt produced his celebrated paintings and etchings. Conducted in Rembrandt's original studio, these sessions uncover the materials and methods he employed, ranging from pigments made with toxic lead and vibrant cochineal insects to linseed oil and even pig bladders used for storing paint. During the holiday period, visitors will also have the opportunity to mix paint on a grinding stone and receive a small print (either an etching or a postcard) to take home. Guests are also encouraged to take a photo at an easel in Rembrandt's student workshop. Demonstrations are held between 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM, and no prior reservation is required.
