Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam Introduces Ukrainian Multimedia Tour
The Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam recently announced the launch of its new multimedia tour, now available in Ukrainian. This initiative allows Ukrainian-speaking visitors to delve into the life, home, and artistic mastery of the renowned Dutch painter in their native language.
The new tour was officially presented on September 9, 2025, and formally announced on September 10, 2025. His Excellency Mr. Andriy Kostin, the Ambassador of Ukraine, received the first Ukrainian multimedia tour from Milou Halbesma, the museum's director. The event also featured a personal video message from the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, and was attended by special guest Willem Jan Hoogsteder, chairman of the Friends of Museum Bredius and a patron of the Rembrandt House Museum.
An Enriched Experience for Ukrainian-Speaking Visitors
This addition ensures that visitors from Ukraine can explore the historical residence where Rembrandt lived and worked for nearly two decades, gaining insights into his craftsmanship and daily life, all while listening to stories in their mother tongue. Milou Halbesma, director of the Rembrandt House Museum, highlighted the museum's role in connecting people globally through Rembrandt's story and art. She emphasized that offering the tour in Ukrainian enhances this connection, providing a "sense of home" to a broader international audience.
Fostering Cultural Connection and Understanding
The initiative aligns with the First Lady of Ukraine’s effort to introduce Ukrainian-language audio guides in cultural institutions worldwide. Ambassador Kostin expressed his pleasure, noting that the new tour not only brings the Ukrainian community closer to Rembrandt's legacy and Dutch heritage but also strengthens mutual understanding and dialogue between cultures. He acknowledged it as a meaningful symbol of friendship and solidarity.
The development of the Ukrainian multimedia tour was made possible through the generous support of the Friends of Museum Bredius. Willem Jan Hoogsteder underscored the profound impact of connecting people with their culture, particularly during challenging times, drawing parallels with the Museum Bredius, which was the first museum in the Netherlands to offer an audiotour in Ukrainian.
The Rembrandt House Museum is the only museum globally dedicated entirely to Rembrandt, offering an unparalleled insight into his ambitions, struggles, and artistic journey within the very walls where he created many of his masterpieces.
