Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam Announces "THUIS" Exhibition on the Meaning of Home
The Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam is set to open a new contemporary art exhibition titled "THUIS. Het thuisgevoel in hedendaagse kunst" (Home. The feeling of home in contemporary art). This unique showcase invites visitors to reflect on the multifaceted concept of 'home' through the perspectives of thirteen contemporary artists, displayed within the historic house where Rembrandt himself once lived and worked.
Scheduled to run from September 26, 2025, through January 4, 2026, the exhibition explores what 'home' signifies—be it a personal interior, a cherished memory, or a secure personal space.
Exploring the Contemporary Meaning of 'Home'
The "THUIS" exhibition features a diverse collection of paintings, drawings, etchings, photographs, video works, and installations. These contemporary pieces will be presented alongside a selection of Rembrandt's own prints, creating a dialogue between historical and modern interpretations of the domestic sphere. The participating artists include Sadik Kwaish Alfraji, Arash Fakhim, Foundland Collective, Arjan van Helmond, Gvantsa Jgushia, Polina Medvedeva, Neda Mirhosseini, Olphaert den Otter, Satijn Panyigay, Pris Roos, Maria Roosen, Tian Teng, and Pink de Thierry.

Live Art Creation in Rembrandt's Historic Studio
A distinctive element of "THUIS" is the active presence of artist Pris Roos, who will be working live in the museum's Open Studio for two days a week throughout the exhibition's duration. Commissioned by the Rembrandt House Museum, Roos will construct a new 'home' using recycled cardboard and pastel chalk. This project continues her acclaimed work of creating cardboard interiors that narrate individual stories. Her installations are rooted in conversations Roos has with people about their personal definitions of 'home'.
This interactive installation in the first exhibition hall harks back to the museum's core identity: an artist's house where creative work has been made for centuries.
The exhibition is curated by Nathalie Maciesza, the Rembrandt House Museum's Curator of Contemporary Art & Interpretation. Her personal background as the daughter of Polish immigrants informs her deep understanding and fascination with the varied meanings of 'home'.
