Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam Welcomes New Supervisory Board Chairman, Marcel Lebon
The historic Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam has announced the appointment of Marcel Lebon as the new chairman of its Supervisory Board. Lebon officially took on the role on September 4, 2025, succeeding advocate Jan van der Grinten, who has concluded his dedicated tenure with the museum. This significant leadership change follows an extensive selection process.
A New Leader with Extensive Experience
Marcel Lebon brings a wealth of leadership experience to the Rembrandt House Museum. Currently, he chairs the Supervisory Board of Danone Nederland. His distinguished career includes various top financial and managerial positions at Unilever, with assignments in major international cities such as London, São Paulo, and New York. He also served as the group CFO for Tai Ping in Hong Kong and chaired the Supervisory Board of Greenpeace from 2016 to 2025.
Karin van Gilst, the museum's outgoing interim-chairman and vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board, expressed enthusiasm for Lebon's appointment. She highlighted his reputation as an inspiring leader, a connector, and a champion of integrity and sustainability, noting these qualities, combined with his passion for art, will be invaluable to the board.
Passion for Art and Vision for Amsterdam's Cultural Scene
Beyond his corporate and social engagements, Marcel Lebon is deeply involved in the art world. In 2018, he co-founded Moving Gallery, a contemporary art space in Utrecht. His academic pursuits include a Bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of Amsterdam, and he is currently pursuing a Master's in Art and Culture Studies at the Vrije Universiteit.
Lebon himself emphasized the unique global and local significance of the Rembrandt House Museum. He articulated his pride in contributing to its mission, recognizing its role as the only museum entirely dedicated to Rembrandt's life and work. He believes the museum inspires creators and connects people worldwide through Rembrandt's craftsmanship, while also serving a vital role in Amsterdam by engaging diverse audiences, including those who may not typically visit museums.
