Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam Unveils 'THUIS' Exhibition on the Meaning of Home
The Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam is currently hosting a new exhibition titled "THUIS: The Feeling of Home in Contemporary Art," which opened to the public on October 1, 2025. This special presentation invites visitors to explore the multifaceted concept of 'home' through the perspectives of thirteen contemporary artists and runs until January 4, 2026.
What 'home' signifies can vary widely—from a comfortable personal interior to a cherished memory, or simply a safe and secure place. The exhibition brings together a diverse range of artworks, including paintings, drawings, etchings, photographs, video works, and installations. These contemporary pieces are displayed alongside a selection of Rembrandt's own prints, creating a unique dialogue between historical and modern interpretations of domesticity within the artist's former residence.
Contemporary Perspectives on 'Home'
The "THUIS" exhibition features a thought-provoking collection of works by a group of distinguished contemporary artists. Each artist offers a unique reflection on what 'home' means to them, with interpretations ranging from universal symbols of domesticity to the profound experience of losing one's home.
Participating artists include Sadik Kwaish Alfraji, Arash Fakhim, Foundland Collective, Arjan van Helmond, Gvantsa Jgushia, Polina Medvedeva, Neda Mirhosseini, Olphaert den Otter, Satijn Panyigay, Pris Roos, Maria Roosen, Tian Teng, and Pink de Thierry. Their contributions provide a rich tapestry of ideas and emotions surrounding the central theme.
