Commemorating the Centenary of the Wielkopolska Uprising (1918-1919): Poland's Path to Independence

This exhibition commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Wielkopolska Uprising of 1918-1919, a pivotal event in Poland's regaining of independence. It explores the historical path to independence, the uprising itself, and the legacy of this significant citizen-led movement. The exhibition is presented in major Polish cities.

Marking the centenary of the Wielkopolska Uprising, this exhibition, co-organized by the History Meeting House (Dom Spotkań z Historią), delves into the successful and significant citizen-led uprising that contributed to Poland's regaining of independence. The exhibition traces the historical journey of Wielkopolanie towards independence in the 19th century, the unfolding of the Wielkopolska Uprising starting December 27, 1918, and the participation of Wielkopolska forces in securing Poland's borders. Presented in partnership with the Wielkopolska Museum of Independence and over 20 other institutions, the exhibition was designed for major Polish cities. Following its inauguration in Poznań, the Warsaw presentation is scheduled from December 28, 2018, to January 11, 2019, on Plac Zamkowy. The exhibition highlights the uprising's regional scope but national significance, underscoring the deep commitment of all social strata in Wielkopolska to the cause of independence, even after decades of partition and Germanization.
